While we do accept Great Danes from any State, please note that transport of the Great Dane to our location in Cedar Rapids, IA is NOT provided at this time and that all Great Danes coming from outside the State of Iowa are required to have a Certificate of Veterinarian Inspection (or Health Certificate per Iowa Code 65.10 below). Iowa Code Chapter 65 ANIMAL AND LIVESTOCK IMPORTATION 65.10(163) Dogs and cats. 65.10(1) General. a. Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI). All dogs and cats imported into the state must be accompanied by a CVI indicating apparent freedom from disease or exposure to infectious or contagious disease, except dogs for exhibition and performing dogs entering for a limited period of time. b. Dogs or cats originating from rabies-quarantined areas shall not be admitted. 65.10(2) Rabies. b. Dogs. All dogs four months of age and older must have a current rabies vaccination with a USDA-approved rabies vaccine Disclaimer - this is a long Guardian Surrender Form so that we can learn all about your Great Dane. ADOPTAt DPDR we only Adopt out our Danes under a Guardian to Adopt program. By utilizing the Guardian to Adopt placement method our sacred Great Danes are provided a chance to go through their initial decompression in their new home while receiving support, encouragement and guidance through DPDR.
Homes in the following states will be considered: Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas. Guardian to Adopt Applications will undergo Reference Checks, Veterinarian Checks, and a Home Visit Interview process PRIOR to being an approved home. DPDR retains the right to refuse any placement for any reason. If you are selected to become a Guardian to Adoptee a Guardian payment of $30 + tax will be invoiced separately, the Adoption fee will reflect this payment and reduce the amount owed at time of Adoption. |
Adoption Fees & Policies
At DPDR we only adopt our our precious Danes under a Guardian-to-Adopt program. By utilizing the Guardian-to-Adopt placement method, our sacred Great Danes are provided a chance to go through their initial decompression in their new home while receiving support, encouragement and guidance through DPDR.

- 4-7 years - $500 + tax
- 8+ years - $350 + tax
- Special needs Danes will be determined on a case-by-case basis
- Bonded Danes will be determined on a case-by-case basis
DPDR Danes are all:
- Spayed/neutered (if medically approved)
- Tacked (if DPDR performs alteration)
- Current on Rabies, DHLPP and Kennel Cough
- Heartworm tested, provided treatment if needed and placed on a preventative
- Placed on flea and tick preventative
- Microchipped
